About the Artist
Ri Noel Tarnpoll’s path was predetermined by her love, respect and admiration for animals. Having had successful careers in public relations, interior design, and fashion, now is the time for her true passion; the study and painting of animals and nature.
Ri's approach to the subject matter is sometimes traditional but often whimsical. She paints on multiple substrates including paper, canvas, fabric, ceramic tile, etc. All of her work carries the same message: “Love Yourself, Love Your World,” a phrase she developed and has been using in all of her endeavors since 1995 and is now presenting to you for consideration.
A portion of all proceeds is donated to animals and their habitats.
Techniques & Materials
My art may vary from piece to piece involving multiple substrates but I never alter my focus from animals and nature.
When working on garments: I use only 100% organic cotton which is hand dyed and hand painted by me. If the artwork plan dictates, I will carve printing blocks from Styrofoam, vinyl, wood, or any other suitable material available in my studio. These blocks are then utilized to create a 'story' by applying paint/ink to them and pressing on to the fabric so as to create a permanent bond between the fabric and the applied color. Next, I hand paint or use collage techniques to achieve my specific goal for the project. Often the materials are used to assist in realizing my objective, i.e., fabric, metal, beads, or whatever may cross my path on a given day. Each garment is painted on its back where it is also signed and carries the name of the particular artwork.
My work allows me to draw on my formalized training in textile design and color theory. Because of my flexibility with this medium and the fact that my art covers a broad spectrum, customers have the option to request pieces or specific artwork. Pet portraits are a frequent favorite.
When working on paper, canvas, or board, I use oils, acrylics, water or gouache, or a combination thereof. Whatever medium I use, my goal is the same: Make the subject 'live'.
Mission Statement
To honor all animals and their habitats through my heart and hands.
